HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE
Holy Cross Parish is located on the near eastside of Indianapolis, an area where many of our neighbors struggle to make ends meet, especially during the holidays. For over twenty-five years, Holy Cross parishioners have organized a food drive to offer the poor of our neighborhood a holiday meal on the Monday before Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Every year our food drive begins in September. We solicit funds to purchase the food necessary to assemble all the fixings for a Thanksgiving and a Christmas dinner for the families in our neighborhood who count on us to enjoy a holiday meal. On the Sundays before Thanksgiving and Christmas, volunteers from parishes and organizations throughout Indianapolis come to Holy Cross for Mass and stay afterward to fill two grocery bags per family with the makings of a meal to take home and cook on the holiday. More volunteers come the next day to add perishable food items delivered that morning and to help with the distribution of these meals in the afternoon to over 500 area families.
To be a part of this year's food drive, leave a message for chair Mike Frazee at (317) 637-2620 ext. 407. Monetary contributions designated for "Holiday Food" (checks payable to "Church of the Holy Cross") are gratefully accepted.
