Holy Cross Ministries
A ministry is a path of service. At Holy Cross parishioners have opportunities to serve parish and Church as well as our community. Within the parish, we serve body and spirit through the Holy Cross Health Ministries, we hand on our faith through a variety of children’s and adult faith formation programs, we keep the parish functioning smoothly through the Parish Council, we offer Liturgy, and we work with the poor in our community. These thoughts from our pastor, Father Larry Voelker, guide us in how we at Holy Cross approach service to others:
- In the big picture of churches, we are a very small and insignificant church. We have very limited resources. The “bottom line” of things won’t change much as a result of what we do or don’t do. But there is another bottom line. And that bottom line is a prayer that there may be found in us compelling signs of love, of unity, of the Christian life.
- To be complete, we need to have things such as prison ministry, food pantries, ministry to the poor. We need to have inquirers who are seeking to be initiated into the faith. We need people preparing for marriage. We need a school to be a living sign of our care for nurture and education. We need to be involved in reconciling people. Helping them find their way back into the community. We need signs of our reverence for creation and God’s presence in creation. We need signs of the sacredness of life and of nature.
- The bottom line isn’t how big we are or how much money we have or what impact we make as that might be measured in economic or statistical concepts. The bottom line is how compelling are the signs in our midst of what Christian life and faith are all about. That’s why we need our ministries and why we need people in our community who are responding to their call.
