Holy Cross Conference
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic organization of lay men and women who seek, in a spirit of justice and charity and by a person-to-person involvement, to help those who are suffering. St. Vincent de Paul members provide personal and neighborly help by organizing themselves into small working groups known as Conferences which operate within church parish boundaries. Funds come from members' dues, individual donations, parish collections, and grants.
How does our conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul serve the poor?
- We work at the SVDP furniture and clothing warehouse on Saturdays throughout the year to provide free clothing and furniture.
- We assist at the food pantries maintained by the SVDP.
- We answer helpline calls to connect callers with the help they need.
- We make home visits to assess the needs of families who qualify for referrals to the furniture warehouse for help with appliances, bedding, or other household items.
- We serve walk-in clients who come to the parish office, providing them with assistance or referrals to other resources, according to their need.
- We provide a measure of financial help with utilities, gas bills, and rent to Holy Cross neighbors in difficulty. This financial aid comes from the special “Fifth Sunday” collection taken up in the parish on the last Sunday of every month with five Sundays.
