LIBRARY & MEDIA CENTER

computerHoly Cross Central has a fully equipped library and computer lab which are regularly utilized by all students in pre-k through eighth grade.

All classes have at least one weekly scheduled time in the library when they are treated to oral story telling as well as quiet reading time.

All students also participate in the Accelerated Reading Program, designed to make essential reading practice more effective by:

  • Personalizing reading practice to each student’s current level.
  • Managing all reading activities, including read to, read with, and independent reading.
  • Assessing students’ reading with four types of quizzes: reading practice, vocabulary practice, literacy skills, and textbook quizzes.
  • Building a lifelong love of reading and learning.

The computer lab, which includes a smart board, is used both for technology class and individual classroom use. Here students:

  • Learn basic computer skills.
  • Learn and develop word processing skills.
  • Create PowerPoint presentations.
  • Utilize programs such as Type to Learn, Microsoft Excel, and ACUITY computerized testing in math and language arts.
  • Create and design Web pages.
  • Create original music compositions.
